Away from the creature madness and into the realm of spaceships. Of course there had to be that hint of a monster to feel like a page in my sketchbook, so most of the ships have an organic feel, one even has tentacles.
The departure from creatures was a nice change, even though drawing monsters is a blast, sometimes you need a change to spark new ideas. The spaceships aren’t a terribly large departure, tentacles and organic shapes abound, in some ways they are still very creature-esque. Nothing wrong with that.
These, as most things from my sketchbook, won’t go anywhere, they are just practice. That doesn’t diminish my interest in them, in fact because they represent the end product, in some ways they are more interesting to me. A sketchbook full of random crazy ideas is a very valuable resource for an artist or illustrator. You never know when a client will ask for something that your sketchbooks already contain the seed for. And that is another huge benefit of drawing daily for fun. Besides the fact that it keeps the creative juices flowing even during the burnout period of a long haul project.
