Multicampers – New Comic

I have been working on quite a few projects recently. Unfortunately that has taken away from my ability to post here. Sorry. One of those projects is a web-comic I am doing. This new web-comic “Multicampers” is about a group of Airsoft players… at least it uses that bizarre little world as a lens for looking at issues and life in general. It is of course targeted at that community.

In case you don’t know what Airsoft is, it is a game much like Paintball in which people run around shooting at each other. in paintball the guns (called markers) shoot gelatin capsules filled with water soluable paint. In Airsoft they use “Guns” that look as much like the real thing as possible, shooting bb’s. Airsoft is much more interested in simulating military where-as paintball is focused on being a unique sport.

Bizarre isn’t it. I feel it makes a very good niche and narrow world to portray larger issues, while simultaneously allowing us to laugh at ourselves. Bill Waterson the creator of Calvin and Hobbes was a genius at this. He used the focus of a small child and his toy/imaginary friend to look at much larger issues. I will be happy just to make a small community of people laugh on a regular basis.

This sheet represents a series of character sketches and assets. I find it useful to sit down and draw out the characters first, and also any prop or symbol related to the world. In this case the guns really are the prop of primary import.

So there you have it, Multicampers is a new comic strip I am currently developing and hope to launch in the next 2 weeks.
